Ledge's Connecticut River Ramble

 

Total Distance:  39.1 miles                Elevation Gain: 2144 feet

Killer Hills: A couple hilly sections

 

Geographical Region:  South Central Connecticut

 

City/Town:  Essex

 

Starting Location:  Route 9 Exit 4 CPL (Route 154) in Essex; CPL is on Route 154 just east of intersection with Route 153.

 

Note: This is a small CPL with limited parking available during the work week.

 

Ride Description:  This scenic ride over mostly rolling terrain (with a few hilly sections) passes through many towns along the lower Connecticut River including Essex, Deep River, Chester, Haddam (Tylerville), East Haddam, Moodus and Lyme (Hadlyme).  Of particular interest will be visits to the historical village of Johnsonville, a lunch/snack break at Gillette Castle State Park and a trip across the Connecticut River on the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry ($2.00).  Consider a stop in Essex at the ice cream parlor located therenear the end of the ride.
