Total Distance: 26.8 miles
Elevation Gain: N/A
Degree
of Difficulty Index: N/A Terrain:
Rolling (est'd)
Killer
Hills: The hill on Durst Road
after crossing the Goodwin Dam will definitely focus your mind for a few
minutes. It's a sharply uphill
grind for about 0.4 miles.
Geographical
Region: Northwest Connecticut
Starting
Location (city/town): Winsted
Starting
Location (detailed directions to):
Start from a CPL on Rt. 44 about 0.6 miles east of the intersection
with Rt. 8 in Winsted.
Ride
Description: While the ~ 3
mile stretch both going and coming on Rt. 44 doesn't have a whole lot of
redeeming value, the rest of the ride is high quality. The 4 mile ride along the Farmington
River both going and coming offers some special views of the river. A visit to Riverton village for a suggested
lunch/snack/ice cream break is a highlight and the lunch spot is across from
the now defunct Hitchcock Museum.
Further, the views from the Goodwin and Colebrook Dams are
spectacular. There is a lot to
like about this ride once you get off Rt. 44.
