Gay City State Park 40-miler

Killer Hills: Several very hilly sections including a couple killer hills

 

Geographical Region:  Southeast Connecticut

 

City/Town:  Hebron

 

Starting Location:  Gay City State Park, Route 85, Hebron. The route sheet mileage starts from small parking area on the right just past the ticket booth. The parking area is 0.2 miles from the Route 85 entrance to the park. There is a weekend/holiday parking fee during the summer months.

 

Ride Description:  This is a hilly ride, mostly over back roads with little traffic. The ride passes through sections of Hebron, Andover, Coventry, Mansfield, Tolland and Bolton. Columbia, Andover, Coventry and Eagleville lakes are passed along the way.

 

Note: There is a bailout option at mile 13.4: Turn left on Rt. 6 west (caution: heavy, high-speed traffic) for 0.7 mile and turn left onto Shoddy Mill Rd, picking up the cues at 38.3. This will reduce the total length of the ride to 18.2 miles.
