Killer Hills: Several tough climbs

 

Geographical Region:  Southeast Connecticut

 

City/Town:  East Lyme (Niantic)       

 

Starting Location:  Samuel M. Pereta Park (formerly Bridebrook Park), Route 156 (adjacent to the Niantic Correctional Institution and near the entrance to Rocky Neck State Park) in Niantic. Take I-95 Exit 72 (Rocky Neck Connector) and at the traffic light go left on Route 156 for about 0.5 miles.  Bridebrook Park is on the left.

                                                                

Ride Description:  This is a challenging ride on mostly back roads between Niantic and Devil's Hopyard State Park (suggested lunch stop).  Pass such landmarks as the Salem Creamery, Lake Hayward, Devil's Hopyard State Park and Pattagansett Lake. This is a great route with lots to admire along the way.  It's a hilly ride, though, and should be attempted only by those in good physical condition.
