Chuck's Off to Newgate Ride

 

Total Distance: 48.8 miles with 40.9-mile option                                 Elevation Gain: 2803 feet    

 

Degree of Difficulty Index:  2803 ft / 48.8 mi = 57.37 ft/mi              Terrain: Hilly    

 

Killer Hills: a few, especially Woodchuck Hill Rd @ mile 4.0; Case St. @ mile 8.5

City/Town:  Simsbury

 

Starting Location:  Weatogue CPL, Rt. 10/202 in Simsbury about 100 yards north of Rt. 185 intersection

 

Ride Description: This is a challenging ride over rolling to hilly terrain with lots of back country road riding.  Old Newgate Prison is a good stop for lunch or a break. Towns visited are Simsbury, Canton, Granby and East Granby.

 

Note: The ride can be shortened by 7.9 miles by turning right onto East St at 18.9 miles and following the cues again beginning at 27.4 miles.
