Degree of Difficulty Index:  1585 ft / 38.0 mi = 41.71 ft/mi                  Terrain: Rolling

Killer Hills: One toughie

Geographic Region:  North Central

City/Town:  Meriden

Starting Location:  Hubbard Park, Meriden

Special Directions:  From I-691 Exit 5 go east on West Main Street; follow

West Main Street and signs for Hubbard Park for 1 ¼ miles to entrance on the left; follow

access road around pond to       large parking area near swimming pool.

Ride Description:  This ride exits Hubbard Park through a passage in the back of the park, so there is no riding on Meriden city streets.  It then winds through the Kensington section of Berlin before visiting New Britain and the Shuttle Meadow and Wassel Reservoirs in Southington.  This is a mostly rolling ride with one major climb and several great down hills.  Lunch will be at Rogers Orchards farm store.

For the ambitious, a right turn at mile 36.9 leads two miles uphill to the summit of East Peak, known also as Castle Crag, where there is a stone observation tower with fine views in all directions. Near the summit, the road forks; take the left fork. Be very careful on the return trip down the mountain, as the road makes a sharp, 90-degree, right-hand bend near the bottom.
