2009 Summer Sea Breeze Ride – 100 Kilometer Route

Total Distance:  61.8 miles                        Elevation Gain:  3222 feet  

 

Degree of Difficulty Index:  3222 ft / 61.8 mi = 52.13 ft/mi          Terrain:  Rolling to hilly

 

Killer Hills:  There is a serious 0.7 mi. (double pitch) climb on Haddam Quarter Rd between mile cues 27.9 & 28.8 and there is a lengthy, 2.5 mi. climb (not especially steep) on Beaver Meadow Rd starting at mile cue 38.7.

Starting Location (city/town):  Madison

 

Starting Location (detailed directions to):  From I-95 Exit 61, go north (away from the ocean) on Rt. 79 for ~ 1 mile to the 1st traffic light.  Turn left on Green Hill Rd and follow for ~ 1 mile to Polson Middle School (the old Daniel Hand HS) on the left.  Turn left on the access road and park in the parking area furthest from the school.  Note:  use of the parking area is not permitted while school is in session.  Schedule your ride accordingly.

 

Ride Description:  This 100 K ride passes through several upscale residential areas in Madison en route to and from rural sections of Killingworth, Durham & Higganum with brief forays into Guilford and Clinton along the way.  It uses mostly back roads or residential roads with limited automobile traffic and features a scenic 1.5 mile ride along the Madison shoreline with spectacular views of Long Island Sound.  Towards the end, the ride skirts Madison's business district but passes by Madison Green and the beautiful Congregational Church that overlooks the green.
